2 Weeks

Today marks two weeks til our first dual meet of the season.  The coaches cannot wait to see all of this hard work the team has put in pay off.  It is one step closer to our mid season taper meet.

It was an interesting practice today as we did a small circuit and then finished with some team relays.  Needless to say, it was a good laugh.  I continue to say this but cannot say it enough, I am thankful each and every day for this opportunity to coach an INCREDIBLE TEAM!

Thank you to some of my wonderful woman who brought me some goodies today.  They were delicious!

Rest up...Tomorrow is a NEW Day!

Believe In Yourself

There may be days when you get up in the morning and things aren't the way you had hoped they would be.

That's when you have to tell yourself that things will get better. There are times when people disappoint you and let you down.

But those are the times when you must remind yourself to trust your own judgments and opinions, to keep your life focused on believing in yourself.

There will be challenges to face and changes to make in your life, and it is up to you to accept them.

Constantly keep yourself headed in the right direction for you. It may not be easy at times, but in those times of struggle you will find a stronger sense of who you are.

So when the days come that are filled with frustration and unexpected responsibilities, remember to believe in yourself and all you want your life to be.

Because the challenges and changes will only help you to find the goals that you know are meant to come true for you.

Keep Believing in Yourself!

No Practice Til Tomorrow Afternoon...relax and refocus!

Endurance Week

This week is off to a great start.

It is endurance week here in Buckhannon! We are in great shape and ahead of where we needed to be. Although we are in great standings we need to gain endurance. With that said, the focus is on endurance this week.

The distance group was honored to swim one of Ed Denny's challenging distance sets and at the end said it was awesome! Thank you Coach for a great set!

Lastly, I want to thank my assistant coach Rod Hunte for doing an incredible job!

Speechless!

I am truly amazed at this mornings practice. Each day is a challenge and an opportunity to do your best. Every single swimmer in the water today proved that they have big goals and will do whatever it takes to get there.

As a coach, I am beyond words of practice went and how fast they swam. WOW!

Congratulations to our team captains: Jeff, Nick, Thomas, Natalie, Hope and Ashley! You all are incredible leaders!

Way to go Bobcats!

Week 3

Week 3 is off to a great start.  We have began our lifting program and look forward to building muscles and improving stamina.  Practices will continue to be challenging as we are still not in complete shape yet.  Now that we have split practice times the coaching staff is able to specialize practices to distance, mid-distance, stroke, sprint and much more.

Today was an incredible day!  I was jumping up and down when one of our talented swimmers surprised the coaches and herself by making a very challenging interval.  Way to go!

Every day is an opportunity to improve and be positive.  We may not have a great day every day, but what we can do is make the most of each day!

Friday

It has been a challenging week for the Wesleyan Swim Team.  Only two more practices to go this week.  I continue to say that I am impressed by each student-athlete and what they have achieved thus far.  This year is a new era for Wesleyan Swimming.  We look to build upon this incredible year with a strong recruiting class for next season.  Focusing on the present is one of our motto's, yet we are always looking at the future.

Stay focused swimmers the week is almost over!

PMA

Attitude is everything is a common phrase. But it’s also very true.

Your attitude affects everything you do. It affects how others see you and respond to you. It ultimately affects who you become as a person.

Look at the list below and mark which statement best fits you when it comes to trying new things. Find out if you are happy with where you’re at on the attitude latitude scale.

Are you very open to new ways of doing things? Do you like to think about them for a while or do you go forward anyway, but full of doubt? Or do you just go with the attitude of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and only resort to new things when you absolutely have to?

Obviously you’ll be more relaxed, and therefore higher up the latitude scale, in some things than others. But in general, whereon the scale do you fit?Note where you fit at present. Are you satisfied with that?

If not, next time you have the opportunity to try something new, or to do something you haven’t done before, try for the next item UP the scale. Consciously say it to yourself in regard to the situation you are facing.

For example, if, right now, you feel you fit mostly in the “I wish I could” range, your challenge for next time is to be at the “I want to” mark. Once you are comfortable there, move on up to the “I think I might” point and so on, until you are at the top. “I will” and “I did” are both top of the line, class A attitudes.

You deserve them, and your life will improve the closer you get to them.

So take the time NOW, to consider where you are.

You can even have different colored markings for different areas of your life, different types of challenges. And then just keep moving on up till your attitude latitude is right on top of the heap.

Here’s the Attitude ladder you will be climbing, starting at the top and working down:

- I did it!
- I will do it
- I can do it
- I probably can do it
- I might try to do it
- I’ll think about trying to do it
- I do want to do it
- I wish I could, but I’m not sure I can do it
- I don’t know how to do it
- I can’t do it
- I won’t try because I know I can’t do it

Where do you fit right now? Remember, attitude is everything.

When you say to yourself “I can’t”, in any form, you are programming yourself for defeat. The more often you think it or say it to yourself the more you believe it.

Instead give it a positive twist, say to yourself “I will do it, with the help of “x” and “y” I can do it.” “x” and “y” may be people, but they may also be strategies, tools, courses, whatever you need to arrive at your desired destination.

The latitude of your attitude determines your chance of success. You can do it. You just have to believe it and keep a positive attitude towards your goals.

BELIEVE

Today's afternoon practice was supposed to be outside again at the outdoor 50m pool but due to thunder plans were changed just before our scheduled practice time.  It's looking like the temperatures are going to be dropping and the rain will be back, which means we are back inside.  We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to train 50m at the beginning of the season.  Having this option available has allowed us to do different training to get us in shape quicker.  It's always a good sign when one of your start athletes splits his best time from last season at the end of practice.

This afternoon we also have two swimmers complete 50y underwater fly kick with no breathe under 20 seconds.  WOW!

Things are coming together very well and I cannot wait till we compete at the WVU State Games on October 14th-15th!

Keep it up team!  "Every day is a new day with new challenges!"

Amazing Day!

It was an incredible practice this afternoon. Every day this team impresses me and most important importantly themselves.  Sometimes all it takes is knowing the coaching staff believes in them for them to believe in themselves.  Astonishing things will happen this season!

One Day At A Time

“The future comes one day at a time.”

So many times we get caught up in planning for the big picture, the final result that is months, even years away. But are we losing out on today? It great to have long term goals, but under these long term goals must lay medium and short term goals as well. Big things don’t just happen overnight. They are built up over time. Tomorrow holds no guarantees, so make the best use of today as you know how. This might mean starting small, with some detail that may seem unimportant. But these minor details can build up to the main event, the big goal and dream that you are working towards.

Let's make today a GREAT day!

Never Forget

Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children.

We Will Always Remember 9/11/01

God Bless America

INCREDIBLE First Week

It has been an incredible first week of practice and I could not be more proud of the team! This week has been challenging and each of the team members gave their best effort!  Everyone is on their way to being the best possible "you" that you can be.  Practice this morning had the coaches speechless and beyond proud.  It was an incredibly tough practice and they all conquered it!  AMAZING!  I truly believe other teams are going to be shocked when they see us take off in the pool.  Wesleyan has gone to a whole new level!

5 week until the WVU State Games!

Great Start

The season is off to a great start!  Every swimmer has made HUGE changes and improvements throughout the week.  I am proud of each and every one of them for their focus, determination and drive to succeed.  Each day is a new day with a new challenge!  The challenges they have conquered this week has shown the team that they can accomplish their goals with a positive mental attitude, having fun and swimming SMART!

Lastly, I want to take the time to thank Coach Scott Hunsinger from Rochester, NY for taking the time to come down and help the team take the next step in the right direction.  His knowledge and ability to communicate to the athletes is incredible.  We are very fortunate to have his support.  Thank you!

6 AM

6:00am Practices began today!  Early morning practice is never easy to do.  "We shouldn't give up what we want the MOST for what we want at the MOMENT."  Practice began with some intense cardio followed by a dry land circuit then a light swim to stretch out.  All of the athletes impressed me this morning with their hard work and motivation!  It is always great to see each of them encouraging one another and pushing themselves to achieve their best.

Swimmers: Hydrate, Stretch and Rest before afternoon practice.

First Day

Today was the first day of the 2011-2012 Swim Season!  The student-athletes were excited yet nervous of what was ahead of them.  It was a great practice that began with some TOUGH ab exercises along with many push-ups.  After a light dryland the swimmers entered the water.  It was a challenging practice that each and every one conquered!  The beginning of the season is one of the many challenges they will have.  We have 6 weeks until our first meet at the WVU State Games!  With that said, there is limited time to get in shape and fix technique.  Our goal right now is to: 1. improve our technique 2. get in shape 3. have fun and smile!

Rest Up because tomorrow is our first morning workout!

Beautiful Day!

It was another beautiful day at practice!  Did a GREAT kick set today.  However their legs probably do not agree with that statement.  Preseason practice are coming to and end which means the real deal begins Tuesday!
